How does tutoring work?

  • A tutor teaches each student individually. Tutoring times are flexible and will be coordinated around the student’s work schedule or bar course schedule to make sure that the student can develop an effective approach to test prep. To achieve this, the tutor will (1) come to the student’s home, (2) schedule to meet at the student’s convenience, and (3) tailor the program to the student’s needs with regard to time and attention to each subject.

Why do I need a tutor when I am already in a bar course?

  • Bar courses are not personalized to immediately address the unique problems each student may have in preparing for the Bar. The benefit of doing significant test prep with feedback from their tutor is that the students can maintain their focus and technique as they attack different types of questions during the Exam.

How can the Novins Law Prep help a retaker?

  • A retaker can always benefit from tutoring. For most retakers the problem is not their knowledge of the law, but rather, they do not have a consistent test taking approach. How can you help a person who has trouble finishing on time?

  • The Pro/Con Essay Outlining method helps students identify and organize relevant issues that would score as many points as possible from the Grader’s checklist. What is the MBE?

  • The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) is a six-hour, two-hundred question multiple-choice examination covering Contracts, Torts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law/Criminal Procedure, Evidence, and Real Property.

How can the Novins Law Prep help on the MBE?

  • The Novins Law Prep tutor will teach the student Legal Math methodologies that are specifically designed for each of the 6 MBE subjects.   • The Novins Law Prep Pro/Con Essay Outlining method is designed to help the student identify and organize relevant issues to get as many points as possible from the Grader’s checklist. This method enables students to spot key issues and prove their conclusions with specific facts from the essay question. To write a superior essay the student must construct a detailed outline that has the key facts and relevant rules clearly organized. Students can use this outline, and with some additional legal language, create a strong IRAC answer.
  • The Novins Law Prep tutor will (1) teach the student how to properly apply the Pro/Con Essay Outlining method, (2) create 2 Pro/Con essay outlines for each of the important State subjects with the student, (3) compare the student’s outline to the Model answer in order to measure the student’s ability to identify and evaluate key issues, and (4) grade and critique the student’s answers written under time conditions. How can the Novins Law Prep help on the MPRE?

  • The Novins Law Prep tutors will teach the student (1) to create real world hypothetical examples that improve retention and application of black letter law, and (2) to use the Legal Math methodology in answering dozens of MPRE questions. Once the student is scoring well on individual questions, the tutor will have the student practice timed drills.

What is the 3 day Intensive Program for the MBE?

  • Over the course of 3 days, the tutor will teach the Legal Math methodologies for each of the 6 MBE subjects. The tutor will teach 4 hours a day. Once all of the 6 subjects are covered and the student is scoring well in each individual subject, the student will participate in the Olympic MBE program. During the Olympics, the student will be doing timed drills of mixed questions. The Olympics are important because it simulates the conditions the student will face on the day of the Bar. If students can do well in practice and have no known weaknesses then they will have the confidence and experience to perform well on the Bar.
  • For the 3 day program, the tutor can travel to the city that the student prefers.

How does the 3 day Intensive Program work for the State Essays?

  • Over the course of 3 days, the tutor will teach the student the Pro/Con Essay Outlining method for all the important State Essay subjects. The tutor will teach 4 hours a day. The student will create 2 Pro/Con essay outlines for each important subject. The tutor will evaluate the student’s timing and the essay’s content. Once the student is scoring well in each important State subject, the student will participate in the Essay Writing Olympics. During the Olympics, the student will write 2 consecutive essays under timed conditions. The Olympics are important because it simulates the conditions of the Bar.
  • For the 3 day program, the tutor can travel to the city that the student prefers. 

How does phone tutoring work?

  • This service provides maximum flexibility for the student’s schedule without sacrificing the academic benefit of tutoring. Phone tutoring can be done for the MBE and the State Essays. The student receives the benefit of learning test taking methodology, getting feedback from the tutor, and developing a proper study schedule.

How can you help out of state students?

  • The Novins Law Prep has several programs for out of state students: (1) the 3 day MBE intensive program, (2) the 3 day Essay Intensive Program, and (3) full programs available through phone tutoring for both the MBE and the State Essays.

How do you help foreign students taking the Bar?
